Built on open climate data.
Everything Klimatrip shows — the globe on the front page and the interactive map at app.klimatrip.com — is derived from the open datasets below. This page credits every source and the licence it reaches you under.
Climate data — Copernicus ERA5-Land
LICENCE — Licence to Use Copernicus Products · © ECMWFTemperatures come from ERA5-Land, the land reanalysis of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), implemented by ECMWF for the European Union, retrieved from the Climate Data Store. Klimatrip modifies the data: it averages the months of 2016–2025 into a ten-year climatology, regrids it for display, and fills a narrow coastal fringe from neighbouring cells. What you see is this derived product, not raw ERA5-Land.
Generated using Copernicus Climate Change Service information (2026).
Contains modified Copernicus Climate Change Service information (2026).
Neither the European Commission nor ECMWF is responsible for any use that may be made of the Copernicus information or data it contains.

Complementary climate data — NASA POWER
LICENCE — U.S. Government work, free and openCoastal and sea-adjacent values on the Spain grid, and the first-generation diurnal range (max/min) of the world map, are derived with help from the NASA POWER project (MERRA-2 based). These data were obtained from the NASA Langley Research Center POWER Project, funded through the NASA Earth Science/Applied Science Program.
Elevation & relief — ETOPO 2022 and SRTM
LICENCE — U.S. Government works, public domainWorld elevations (and the land fraction used to fill the coastal fringe) come from ETOPO 2022, the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information global relief model.
NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (2022): ETOPO 2022 15 Arc-Second Global Relief Model. DOI: 10.25921/fd45-gt74
Fine elevations for Spain come from the NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), courtesy NASA/USGS, accessed through the open Open Topo Data API.
Place names — GeoNames
LICENCE — CC BY 4.0The names that label towns and cities on the map — both the Iberian gazetteer and the world gazetteer — include data from GeoNames, licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.
Coastlines & borders — Natural Earth
LICENCE — public domainThe coastline and country outlines that clip the Spain layer are made with Natural Earth, free vector and raster map data.
Base maps, search & driving times — OpenStreetMap
LICENCE — © OpenStreetMap contributors · ODbLThe interactive map is built on data from OpenStreetMap, available under the Open Database Licence:
- Base map tiles by CARTO (Voyager and Positron styles) and by openstreetmap.org.
- Satellite view: Tiles © Esri — Source: Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics, and the GIS User Community.
- Search by Photon (komoot) with Nominatim as fallback — both on OpenStreetMap data.
- Driving times and routes computed with Valhalla and OSRM on OpenStreetMap extracts by Geofabrik.
Software & type
LICENCE — per project, all open sourceThe map runs on Leaflet (BSD-2-Clause), with icons from Lucide (ISC). Type is set in Space Grotesk, Instrument Sans, IBM Plex Mono and Inter, all under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, served by Google Fonts.
Privacy, in one paragraph
NO ANALYTICS · NO AD TRACKERSThis site runs no analytics and no ad trackers. The waitlist stores exactly one thing — your email address — and uses it once, to announce the launch. Map tiles, search, routing and fonts are served by the third parties credited above; when the app requests them, your browser contacts those services directly under their own terms.
